Keycloak OIDC and RBAC Architecture for Multi-Tenant Sovereign Systems

Decentralizing user directories while enforcing strict server-side validation, PKCE token handshakes, and tamper-proof regulatory session logging across every transactional endpoint.

1. The Enterprise Security Challenge: Beyond Frontend Role Checking

In rapid-prototyping environments and legacy departmental platforms, role-based access control (RBAC) is frequently relegated to client-side view toggles. Hidden UI elements give organizations a false sense of security, while underlying API endpoints remain vulnerable to broken object-level authorization (BOLA) and parameter tampering.

The IdeaBuild sovereign architecture implements a zero-trust model where every inbound HTTP request undergoes mandatory cryptographically verified claims evaluation on the server, completely decoupled from the presentation tier.

2. Identity Gateway & Reverse Proxy Topology

Public client browsers never communicate directly with internal identity databases. Traffic flows strictly through an edge reverse proxy (Nginx) enforcing rate limiting, strict Content Security Policies (CSP), and SSL termination.

Topology Map: Secure Gateway & Microservice Isolation
[ Public Browser / Client ] │ (HTTPS / PKCE Flow) ▼ ┌────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐ │ Reverse Proxy Gateway (Nginx) │ │ - SSL Termination / Rate Limiting / Security Headers │ │ - Blocks external access to admin & diagnostic ports │ └───────┬────────────────────────────────────────┬───────┘ │ │ ▼ ▼ ┌──────────────────────────────┐ ┌──────────────────────────────┐ │ Keycloak IAM (Port 8080) │ │ Backend APIs (.NET 10) │ │ - Realms / OIDC Tokens │ │ - api-auth / api-private │ │ - TOTP 2FA Verification │ │ - api-backoffice / api-diag │ │ - Keycloak Admin API │ │ - Server-side RBAC Policies │ └──────────────────────────────┘ └──────────────┬───────────────┘ │ ▼ (Redis Streams) ┌──────────────────────────────┐ │ Dedicated Postgres Audit DB │ │ - Pre & Post Mutation State │ │ - Immutable Forensic Logs │ └──────────────────────────────┘

3. Dual-Database Segregation & Forensic Audit Streams

Standard enterprise platforms store audit logs within the same database as transactional business records. If an attacker gains elevated schema privileges, both business records and audit trails can be altered or erased simultaneously.

IdeaBuild isolates audit telemetry into a segregated database architecture:

Database Tier 01

postgres-main (Transactional DB)

Stores core application entities, organizations, contacts, and active workflow states. Accessible exclusively by authenticated microservices over Docker internal networks.

Database Tier 02

postgres-audit (Forensic Event Store)

Dedicated, isolated PostgreSQL instance. Consumes modification events published to Redis Streams. Records user ID, IP address, timestamp, previous JSON state, and new JSON state.

4. Automated Production Security Verification Battery

To ensure internal administration consoles and diagnostic tools remain completely unreachable from the public internet, IdeaBuild deploys automated continuous verification suites:

Check 01: no-published-ports

Inspects docker-compose.yml at boot and halts if any database, cache, or internal microservice publishes host ports outside the Nginx gateway whitelist.

Check 02: production-blocks-tools

Validates that production Nginx configuration issues strict 404 responses to diagnostic facades, internal dashboards, and MCP inspection sockets.

Check 03: attachments-volume-not-served

Guarantees that filesystem upload volumes are never mounted directly to public web paths; all downloads must stream through authenticated API permission gates.
